Documentation
Everything you need to install, activate, and get the most out of FrameOCR.
Overview
FrameOCR is a Chrome extension that lets you pause any video and instantly copy the text visible on screen. It works by capturing a screenshot of the current video frame and running it through a high-accuracy OCR engine on our servers.
Your license key is the only credential you need. It is bound to your device and never shared. An access token is generated automatically each session — you never have to log in.

Installation
Subscribe to a plan
Visit the Pricing page and choose a plan. After checkout, you will receive an email containing your license key within seconds. Keep this key safe.
Install the Chrome extension
Open the Chrome Web Store and search for "FrameOCR", or click the direct link in your welcome email. Click "Add to Chrome" and confirm the installation.
Pin the extension (optional)
Click the puzzle icon in the Chrome toolbar and pin FrameOCR for quick access. The FrameOCR icon will now appear in your toolbar permanently.
Activation
Activation binds your license key to the current device. Each plan supports up to 3 simultaneously activated devices.
Open the extension popup
Click the FrameOCR icon in your Chrome toolbar. On first launch, you will see an activation screen.
Enter your license key
Paste the license key from your email into the input field. The key format is XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
Click Activate
FrameOCR will verify your key and generate a secure session token. Activation takes less than a second. Your key is stored locally — you will not need to re-enter it.
Note: If you uninstall and reinstall the extension, a new device ID is generated and will consume an activation slot. Plans include 3 device slots to accommodate this.
Usage
Navigate to a video
Open any video on YouTube, Vimeo, or any other supported platform. FrameOCR works on all sites that display HTML5 video.
Pause the video at the right frame
Pause the video when the text you want to capture is visible. For best accuracy, ensure the frame is in focus and the text is not obscured.
Click the FrameOCR button
Click the FrameOCR icon or use the keyboard shortcut. The extension captures the current video frame and sends it for processing.
Copy and use the result
Recognised text appears in the popup within 1–2 seconds. Click "Copy" to copy all text, or select specific portions manually.
Checking your remaining quota
Your remaining uses for the current month are shown in the extension popup after each recognition. The count resets automatically on your billing renewal date.
Managing Devices
Each license supports up to 3 simultaneously activated devices. If you need to remove a device — for example, after replacing a computer or reinstalling Chrome — contact our support team and we will free up a slot for you promptly.
To request device removal, email support@frameocr.com with your license key and a description of which device to remove. We respond within 24 hours on business days.
Troubleshooting
"Invalid license key" on activation
Double-check that you copied the key exactly as received, including all dashes. Keys are case-sensitive. If the issue persists, contact support with your order ID.
"Max devices reached" error
You have activated the maximum of 3 devices. Email support@frameocr.com with your license key to request removal of an old device and free up a slot.
"Quota exceeded" — recognition is blocked
Your monthly recognition limit has been reached. Your quota resets automatically on your billing renewal date. Consider upgrading to the Pro plan for 1,000 uses/month.
OCR result is inaccurate or empty
Ensure the video is fully paused (not just buffering) and that the text is clearly visible in the frame. Very small or stylised fonts may reduce accuracy.
Extension stops working after browser restart
Your license key is stored locally and should persist. If it does not, re-enter your key in the activation screen. Your device slot is preserved.
